part 22

part 22 of many...

My project reflection.

This project challenged me in various different ways but also taught me a lot about the power of creativity and how you can turn a vision into a reality. I struggled a lot with what I wanted to create at first because I wanted to create something that could have an impact on the audience and that could emote feelings. When I finally settled on the topic that I wanted to create my project on, I was pretty happy because I was able to create the idea for what I wanted my film opening to look like.            Throughout the entire duration of this project a lot, and I mean a lot, has changed. The idea that I originally started with was impossible to film with the circumstances that occurred and It really caught me off guard because the week I was supposed to film was the beginning of the quarantine that we are still under. My entire opening was going to take place in school so I really had to change the entirety of the project while still trying to keep the same impact from my original idea. The final opening was a mixture of some shot ideas from the original plan and a lot of trial and error, seeing what worked and what didn't within the parameters of what I could do at home. Considering all of the things that I had to change and all of the things that happened throughout the project I'm glad that I was still able to produce the opening in a creative manner and be proud of it.
I think my biggest struggle by far was time management. It's something that I have always struggled with and this project definitely showed me that I have to really change the way I work. The bulk of the project, which was the all the moments around the original timeline of the project were probably some of the busiest months of my life. I was auditioning for college and busy with back to back rehearsals for my senior show, and my life was just so busy that my priorities were all over the place and unfortunately the project was not my priority at times and that's where I felt was my greatest fault. I definitely should have put more attention towards all aspects and creative steps of the project, so that I wouldn't have been so stressed. If I could do this project again, I would have managed my time a lot better and had a more rigid creative schedule that I would have stuck to.
Overall though, I am satisfied with the project I created and I feel that it is an impactful piece.
I am glad that I had the chance to do this project because I have always loved watching film and now that I was able to create even a little piece of it, I can appreciate all of the things that go into creating film, from the struggles to the triumph.

part 21

part 21 of many...

Huh, who would have guessed it?

I find it very interesting how my choices regarding sound evolved significantly throughout the project. At the beginning I was completely committed to making an opening that used minimal sound and focused more on simple diegetic sounds instead of music. As my circumstances changed I ended up using more sound than I ever thought I was going to use. I even included music! I just thought it would be interesting to comment on how my creative process shone through with my decision making in this regard. I started with one clear idea but evolved (and obiosouly with the circumstanced)  and I ended up with a completely different idea and final product.

part 20

part 20 of many...

Finished editing!

Wow that was actually much trickier than expected, because I had to readjust a lot of the shots so that it looked more cohesive. But I finished putting my project together. I decided to added some inner character dialogue to add context and depth overall. It was a decision that I added in the moment but I feel that it added an interesting touch.
here is a script of the dialogue -->

I also layered many of the audios to replicate what I did at the beginning of the opening, which once again helps create an overwhelming feeling and can enhance the feeling of stress that the character is feeling. I layered about 4 or 5 tracks of audio on one track and then positioned 2 tracks so that they play simultaneously. I did this by recording myself on my phone and then re-recording the audio on my laptop with an added voice and just repeating until I got the desired effect.
There were some things that I decided to add into the opening while I was filming which made a big difference to the overall look of the project and I'm glad I decided to film extra shots so that I had a variation to choose from when it came to the final editing.

part 19

part 19 of many...

As I have continued my editing and filming process I have thought about the target audience for the opening that I am creating. Since I am creating a film that reflects the current situation and reflects current problems that specifically American teenagers are going through. My target audience is the general high schooler, so ages 14-18, and at the same time another target audience could be the politicians who are making and controlling the current gun safety laws that influence the entire country. I want the opening to be a reflection of what the negative effects of gun violence can do to a teenager, and be an example of the damages we could avoid if we have the correct gun safety laws.
